Sleep as the last room

The bedroom is the evening’s final room, and it deserves the same deliberateness: cool, dark, and empty of the day’s devices.

Prepare the room, then the body

Air the bedroom briefly, close it to cool, and pull the phone’s charging cable to the hallway. The room should offer sleep and nothing else, an offer the body eventually accepts.

The body’s preparation is already written: the sequence, the tea, the hands. What remains is lying down at a consistent hour, which is the evening’s final lamp going out.

Keep the boundary honest

Difficult nights happen; the response is boring and effective: dark room, slow breath, longer exhale, no clock-watching bargain. The counted breath is the yoga class’s last pose, endlessly repeatable.

Mornings report on evenings honestly. The journal’s whole architecture, lamps to oil to tea, exists so that the morning’s report is routinely good, which is as close to a thesis as an evening journal needs.
